Corporate event host, Live events MC and now podcast host:
why I said yes to Home Truths
Long before I ever sat behind a podcast mic, I was cutting my teeth in live sport, broadcast and live events, hosting and MC’ing corporate panels, reading a room in real time, keeping experts on track, and making sure the audience walks away with something they can actually use. Including me, if I’m honest! I rarely come in as the expert on the topic, but I love learning and gaining knowledge in all different areas of life so I love leaving an event that I hosted, feeling like I learned something. Because that is a pretty good indicator that the audience probably did too.
Seven years ago that experience led me to Swanny & Friends alongside Collingwood legend Dane Swan. The show was on the brink of folding at the time, caught up in controversy, and without a steady, professional hand at the helm it would not have survived. That professionalism was exactly what I was brought on board to provide. To steer the ship to steadier waters, and it was enough to turn things around. From there, Dane, Ralphy and I spent the next seven years building something the audience genuinely trusted and loved. Sitting down with some of this country’s greatest athletes, comedians and journalists, until I made the personal decision to step away at the beginning of this year.
Two very different formats.
Same instinct underneath them both… ask the question the audience is actually thinking, and don’t let anyone hide behind jargon.
Joining Home Truths
So when the opportunity came up to host Home Truths, a new monthly podcast presented by Metricon, it felt less like a leap and more like everything finally lining up.
My role on this one is simple. I am there to represent the people. I am not the economist and I am not the builder, I am the layman in the room, and that is exactly the point. My job is to jump in and ask the question the everyday listener would actually be asking, to keep Cameron and Brad honest, and to make sure what comes out the other end is educational without ever feeling over your head.
Episode 1 is out now, and the response has been better than I could have hoped for. Sitting down with property economist Cameron Kusher and Metricon CEO Brad Duggan to unpack what’s really going on with rates, tax changes and housing confidence, and doing it in a way that’s actually useful, not just noise, is exactly the kind of work I love.
Episode 2 is already in the works, and it’s a big one: migration policy, housing capacity, the construction skills shortage, and whether simpler building regulation could actually move the needle. Same format, thirty minutes, no jargon, no politics, just straight answers. I’m genuinely excited.
What 7+ years of broadcast, podcasting and corporate MC work has taught me
What I’m most proud of isn’t any single episode though. It’s that I’ve built a career flexible enough to move between formats, long-form podcast conversation, live sports broadcast, corporate stage, and bring the same energy and preparation as corporate event host and MC to all of it. Podcasting taught me patience and depth. Corporate panel hosting taught me pace and precision. Home Truths gets the best of both.
